Richard Louv is my new favorite voice in education and I am so excited to finally get my hands on this book. I've been dying to read it for quite some time now and this week a friend happened to put it in my hands. So far, it's gotten me even more interested incorporating nature into the classroom and has spurred research into place-based education and finally led me to start investigating the principles of biomimicry. I even wrote a post about it, which you can read here. Go find this book, you will not regret it!

Thanks to the Independent Project, I have been introduced to a whole bunch of new resources to check out. The next book I will be seeking out is this one right here. I love hearing other people's stories about school. I am so excited to read Goyal's book. I'll let you know when I get my hands on it!

I have read a handful of Alfie Kohn's books and this one is continuing the trend of leaving me completely inspired and excited about the possibilities for the future of education. Kohn is someone I want in charge of leading this country in education policy. As I try and get through 5 pages without stopping to make a note, I find myself thinking "yes! someone finally gets it!" I also really loved his other books, The Schools Our Children Deserve, and Feel-Bad Education, they are both so refreshingly forward thinking.

Designs for Living and Learning has given me so many important things to think about as I am helping to design a small, cooperative farm preschool here in Hawaii. This book is a really great guide for the how and the why aspects of designing schools and classroom spaces. I also really love Jessica Diviney's Inspiring Spaces for Young Children for inspiration in classroom design, she offers some beautiful images and great ideas on set-up and incorporating elements of the environment into your design.

Aside from Katherine and Isabel themselves, no one understands and can explain the benefits of understanding personality using the 16 types defined by Myers-Briggs. I used their book Do What You Are as my career counselor's bible and I based my graduate thesis around how knowledge of type can help one find meaningful work that puts their greatest strengths to work. I am now using my understanding of type to help transform schools into learning environment that recognizes and celebrates the differences in how children learn so that every child has an equal chance to realize his or her potential.
